The Baillie is converting Capitol Hill's century-old Shafer Baillie Mansion (a bed and breakfast for nearly 50 years until it closed at the end of 2025) into a 10-room boutique hotel and restaurant, under new owners Harry's Good Times Co. The team behind Harry's Fine Foods and Harry's Beach House is targeting a summer 2027 opening, preserving the mansion's original woodwork and third-floor ballroom.

The concept
The Baillie occupies a Tudor Revival mansion built around 1913-1914 for brewing executive Samuel Loeb, later home to Scottish immigrant Alexander Baillie, credited with introducing golf to the western United States, and then to the Shafer family, whose ballroom and pipe organ still occupy the third floor. The building operated as a rooming house from 1952, then as the Shafer Baillie Mansion Bed & Breakfast from 1979 until its closure on December 31, 2025, run by owners Mark Mayhle and Ana Lena Melka for roughly two decades. Harry's Good Times Co., the team behind Harry's Fine Foods and Harry's Beach House, bought the mansion in a sale reported finalized in March 2026, to convert it into a 10-room boutique hotel and restaurant, preserving the original mahogany and oak woodwork, light fixtures and tiling.
