The Dagny Boston

After 25 years as the Hilton Boston Downtown/Faneuil Hall, the 1928 Art Deco Batterymarch Building reopened in August 2023 as The Dagny — a 403-room independent hotel under DiamondRock Hospitality and Aimbridge, following a $32 million redesign by HBA Los Angeles. It's among downtown Boston's largest hotels to shed a major chain flag for an independent identity.

The place

The Dagny occupies 89 Broad Street in the Financial District, inside the Batterymarch Building — a stretch of downtown a few minutes from Faneuil Hall, the Waterfront, and South Station, in the district's older, narrower-streeted core rather than its glass-tower blocks.

The concept

Constructed in 1928 to a design by Massachusetts architect Harold Field Kellogg, the Batterymarch Building was Boston's first Art Deco skyscraper and was converted into a hotel in 1998. It operated for years as the Hilton Boston Downtown/Faneuil Hall before a $32 million renovation stripped the Hilton flag entirely: the property reopened in August 2023 as The Dagny, an independent hotel owned by DiamondRock Hospitality and managed by Aimbridge. HBA Los Angeles led the redesign, leaning into the building's Art Deco bones across 403 rooms and suites.
