StarCité Hotel (Olympic Park)

A seven-story hotel and conference centre designed by Provencher Roy would replace most of the StarCité cinema complex beside Montreal's Olympic Stadium, developed by Gestion Georges Coulombe in partnership with cinema owner France Film. First announced in late 2023 with construction expected in 2025, the project's groundbreaking has since slipped to a Q2/Q3 2026 target, with no hotel operator or brand named yet.

The place

The seven-story, roughly 170,000-square-foot hotel would occupy 4825 Pierre-De Coubertin Avenue in the southeast corner of Montreal's Olympic Park, steps from the Viau Métro station and about a 15-minute subway ride from downtown. The site also sits within walking distance of the Biodôme, Insectarium, Planétarium and Botanical Garden that make up Espace pour la Vie, whose combined five million annual visitors developers hope a hotel could convert from day-trippers into overnight stays.

The concept

The project would replace most of the 17-screen StarCité multiplex that has operated at the site since 2000 — six screens would remain, some converted into multi-functional rooms — on the only privately owned parcel of land within Olympic Park, which France Film has owned since 2015. Architect Provencher Roy designed a low, semi-circular building intended to echo the curves of the Olympic Stadium rather than compete with it; developer Gestion Georges Coulombe, whose portfolio includes several restored Old Montreal landmarks and the Relais & Châteaux-affiliated Stonehaven Le Manoir in the Laurentians, has said explicitly it will not build a tower on the site. Plans call for a 1,000-person multi-use room and a conference centre, addressing a stated lack of meeting facilities in the area; the hotel itself would have no pool or gym, on the logic that Olympic Park's own athletic facilities already cover that need. No parking is planned at the hotel itself, with arrangements instead directing guests to Olympic Park's underused 4,700-space underground garage.

Dining & wellness

Two restaurants and an urban spa are planned, alongside the shared multi-use event space; no restaurant names, chef or spa operator have been disclosed, and no hotel brand has signed on to run the property.
