Moxy Montreal Downtown

Moxy Montreal Downtown opened its doors on April 30, 2025, becoming Marriott International's 300th hotel in Canada and the Moxy brand's first foray into Quebec. The 216-room property occupies the lower floors of Skyla, a 63-story residential tower its developers call Montreal's tallest, on rue Saint-Jacques between Griffintown and Old Montreal. Inside, subway-inspired murals and a mirrored, neon-lit lobby signal a hotel built for a younger, sociable crowd rather than a hushed downtown business stay.

The place

The hotel sits at 910 rue Saint-Jacques, on the western edge of downtown Montreal where the office towers of the financial district give way to Griffintown's converted warehouses and the cobblestone streets of Old Montreal. Bonaventure metro station, the Bell Centre and the Palais des congrès (Montreal Convention Centre) are all within a short walk, as is the shopping strip along Sainte-Catherine Street and the nightlife of Crescent Street. It's a corridor that has absorbed a wave of downtown hotel and residential development in recent years, and Moxy's arrival at the base of a new 63-story tower adds a compact, design-driven option to a submarket long dominated by larger convention and business hotels.

The concept

Moxy Montreal Downtown occupies the first floors of Skyla, a 63-story residential skyscraper developed by Montreal's Groupe Canvar (the Varadi family), whose upper floors — 17 through 63 — are set to hold roughly 600 apartments above the hotel. The hotel itself was brought to market in partnership with Montreal-based operator RIMAP Hospitality, and its April 2025 opening made it both the first Moxy in Quebec and the third in Canada, following Moxy Banff and Moxy Halifax Downtown, which both opened in 2024. Marriott counted the opening as its 300th hotel in the country, a milestone the company highlighted as part of its wider Canadian expansion. The interiors lean into Moxy's playful, budget-conscious formula rather than softening it for a Quebec audience: floating mirrors and a sculptural spiral staircase anchor the lobby, a mirrored, neon-lit tunnel connects public areas, and Montreal design collective Design is Yummy created subway-car-inspired murals for each of the hotel's floors, a nod to the city's metro system. Guest rooms come in three configurations — one king, one queen, or two queens — fitted with 50-inch HD televisions, motion-activated LED guide lights, walk-in showers and four-layer acoustic glazing; the hotel offers no suites, but 22 of its 216 rooms are accessible. The brand's signature check-in-at-the-bar ritual, with a complimentary welcome cocktail, sets the tone for a property aimed at a younger, socially inclined guest rather than the traditional downtown business traveler.

Dining & wellness

Food and drink are centered on Moxy Bar & Restaurant, a lively bar-restaurant and lounge where check-in doubles as the start of the evening, with signature cocktails, local beers and a casual dishes menu, plus a grab-and-go counter for guests passing through. On the 12th floor, an indoor pool decorated with pink flamingo motifs is paired with a hot tub and sauna, while the adjoining fitness center looks out over the Farine Five Roses sign, one of Montreal's best-known landmarks. Co-working areas and conference rooms round out the amenities, open to hotel guests and the public alike.
