Radisson RED Auckland

Radisson RED Auckland opened in February 2026 as Radisson Hotel Group's first hotel in New Zealand and the first Radisson RED in Australasia. It has 322 rooms and suites on a downtown block between Queen Street and Lorne Street. The building is a $100 million redevelopment by Stonewood Group of a 15-storey tower that once housed Countrywide Bank and later National Bank. The hotel takes eleven levels; three more hold retail and dining space.

The place

The hotel's address is 33 Lorne Street, on the Arts District side of the central city. The site runs through the block to Queen Street, opposite the Smith & Caughey's department store, and is about a minute on foot from Te Waihorotiu Station.

Lorne Street is the quieter, food-and-drink end of the block. Within a short walk are the Auckland Art Gallery, the Civic Theatre, Aotea Square and Albert Park, which the upper floors look over. The Sky Tower is in view from the higher rooms and from the rooftop.

The concept

Radisson RED is the group's playful upper-upscale brand, launched in 2015. In Auckland it leans on a theatre-and-gallery idea. Corridor lighting is meant to resemble stage spotlights, lounge seating draws on opera boxes, and the rooms are styled after an actor's dressing room, with layered textures, strong colours and artwork.

Higher-floor rooms have skyline views, and the Suite Panorama looks over the city, Albert Park and the harbour. The hotel takes pets, which is still uncommon among Auckland hotels. The fitness centre is open daily from 5 am to 11 pm.

The mixed-use building carries a 5 Green Star rating. Stonewood's original plan, announced in 2024, put the opening in 2025; the hotel welcomed guests in early 2026.

Dining & wellness

An all-day dining venue and bar operates at ground level and has been open since the hotel's launch. The group has not named it in its announcement.

The larger project is the rooftop. Stonewood described it in 2024 as a 500 square metre bar on level 15 with a covered terrace, billed as the city's biggest open-air rooftop bar. The hotel now describes the Rooftop Restaurant & Bar as the largest outdoor rooftop space in New Zealand, with Sky Tower views. At launch it was listed as opening soon.

The rooftop holds up to 219 guests cocktail-style and can be split into four rooms with natural light, for weddings, pop-ups, live performances and business events. It connects to the bar and the hotel's event spaces.
