DoubleTree by Hilton Auckland, Albert Street
Hilton's DoubleTree brand debuts in Auckland inside a converted 1980s office tower, three years past its original opening target
Announced · TBC
DoubleTree by Hilton Auckland, Albert Street will bring Hilton's DoubleTree brand to the city for the first time inside a converted 1980s office tower at 92 Albert Street, previously home to Telecom New Zealand. Signed in 2020 for a first-quarter-2023 opening, the 231-room hotel had slipped by roughly three years as of the most recent reporting found, with no independently confirmed opening date.

The place
The hotel occupies 92 Albert Street in the heart of Auckland's CBD, a short walk from Aotea train station and within walking distance of the Sky Tower, the Auckland waterfront and the New Zealand International Convention Centre.
The concept
92 Albert Street was built as a 17-storey office tower whose major tenant was Telecom New Zealand; a New Zealand Green Building Council case study documents it as a 4 Green Star-rated office building, refurbished around reusing its existing superstructure and façade rather than demolishing it. Hilton's 2020 signing announcement described the project as "new-build," but that appears to be loose marketing language rather than an accurate account of the building's history — the office tower's structure and shell were retained and expanded into a 20-storey, 231-room hotel, making this a conversion rather than ground-up construction. Marking the brand's introduction to Auckland and Hilton's second city property after Hilton Auckland, the hotel was originally due to open in the first quarter of 2023; it has slipped by roughly three years since.
Dining & wellness
Plans call for an all-day dining restaurant and bar, a fitness centre and roughly 400 square metres of event and meeting space, though none of this has been independently confirmed as operating.
