M Social Auckland is the second hotel of Millennium & Copthorne's M Social brand, after Singapore. It occupies the former Copthorne Hotel Harbour City at 196-200 Quay Street, opposite Princes Wharf, and has 190 rooms. Reports date the opening to October 2017, with an official launch in the first quarter of 2018.

The place
The hotel is on Quay Street, across from Princes Wharf on the Auckland waterfront. Rooms overlook the wharf and the harbour.
The concept
The building dates from the 1970s and traded as a Travelodge before it became the Copthorne Harbour City. The group put it through a two-year upgrade, which its 2017 results describe as an extensive refurbishment and rebuild of the Quay Street hotel.
There are five Social room types and two suite categories, the Harbour and Ocean suites. Each floor has its own theme drawn from local culture, among them plants and sea life, and literature, with street art on the floors. Guests in the Social Club rooms and suites can use the Social Lounge. Interiors are credited to Aedas Interiors.
Self check-in kiosks and a media wall showing transport times, weather and local activities are part of the brand's approach.
Dining & wellness
Beast & Butterflies is the all-day restaurant, with a Pacific Rim and street-food menu, and a delicatessen sits beside it. Meeting rooms take five to 50 people.
