InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach is the former Crowne Plaza Sydney Coogee Beach, reopened on 1 December 2025 after a year in which the hotel was largely closed for conversion. It is the first InterContinental on a Sydney beach, with 198 rooms and suites. Facilities opened in stages, and the Èliva Spa only followed in May 2026.

The place
On Arden Street, facing Coogee Beach in Sydney's east. The hotel's guest guides point to early swims at Wylie's Baths, the heritage-listed sea pool, and to snorkelling on the underwater nature trail at Gordons Bay.
The concept
Woods Bagot designed the transformation, described as a multimillion-dollar investment. The owner is Salter Brothers, which announced over $1 billion of investment in IHG-branded hotels in May 2025: the conversion of Coogee and of three Crowne Plazas in Melbourne and Canberra to InterContinental, the switch of InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto to Regent, and a Hotel Indigo in Canberra.
Many of the 198 rooms and suites have ocean views. Phase one, in early December 2025, put the rooms back in service. Phase two, planned for March 2026, was to add an event terrace, the spa, the infinity pool, two pickleball courts, which the hotel calls a first for a Sydney hotel, and the Club InterContinental lounge, with breakfast, afternoon tea and twilight drinks on a private open-air terrace facing the ocean.
The largest event space holds 350 delegates. It had not reopened in December, with bookings due to resume in February 2026. General manager Melinda Lampier also runs Salter Brothers' IHG portfolio.
InterContinental was founded in 1946 by Juan Trippe, the founder of Pan American Airways, and the brand counts more than 240 hotels in over 70 countries.
Dining & wellness
Shutters Restaurant & Bar opened with the hotel in December and is the more casual option, including for families. Rick Stein at Coogee Beach is the British chef's first restaurant in Sydney, with Colin Chun as head chef, and it was fully booked until January.
The heated infinity pool has private cabanas and fire pits for winter. Its poolside menu mixes classic and lighter dishes, and the hotel serves what it calls nourish bowls anywhere on the property.
The Èliva Spa has magnesium mineral pools, infrared and salt saunas, cold plunges, a crystal steam room and a recovery lounge with PEMF and LED masks, compression boots and vitamin C showers. A fitness studio is open 24 hours.

April 23, 2026: IHG announces the completion of the InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach renovation: a heated infinity pool with cabanas, the Club InterContinental lounge with an ocean-facing terrace, two pickleball courts, a 24-hour fitness studio and the Èliva Spa, due to open in May with magnesium mineral pools, saunas, cold plunges and a recovery lounge.
