Four Points by Sheraton Sydney, Central Park

Four Points by Sheraton Sydney, Central Park opened on 8 August 2018 at 88 Broadway, Chippendale, in the Eastern Tower of the Central Park development. It has 297 rooms and brought the brand back to Sydney after the earlier Four Points had been renamed a Hyatt Regency in Darling Harbour.

The place

Central Park stands on the former Kent Brewery site, a roughly 2 billion dollar mixed-use project by Frasers Property Australia and Sekisui House Australia with retail, restaurants and residential towers. The hotel is in that precinct, on Broadway, a short walk from Central Station.

Chippendale lies between the city centre and the University of Sydney. The hotel's bars and restaurant face the street, so the ground floor works as part of the precinct's dining rather than a closed lobby.

The concept

The brand pitch at opening was easy-going: general manager Bernhard Langer described the hotel as aimed at independent travellers wanting balance on the road, with an inviting experience in one of the city's busiest locations. The hotel reports 297 rooms and two suites, soundproofed walls, rainfall showers and blackout curtains in the rooms, and a 76 square metre connecting option with a king bed and a double sofa bed.

A fitness centre, a 24-hour gym according to later reviews, and an raised outdoor terrace complete the facilities. Conference space totals more than 553 square metres.

Dining & wellness

Central Quarter is the restaurant, entered directly from Broadway, with an open kitchen, outdoor tables and a children's menu. Malt Bar, at street level, serves craft beer, spirits and wine, and its name and design recall the Kent Brewery that once occupied the site. An al fresco bar is also part of the layout. A buffet breakfast costs about 35 Australian dollars per person.
