Hyatt Regency Sydney opened on 1 December 2016 on Sussex Street, at the edge of Darling Harbour, after a redevelopment led by the owner, M&L Hospitality. The former Four Points by Sheraton gained a 24-storey tower with 222 rooms, bringing the total to 892. Hyatt presented the result as the largest full-service upscale hotel in Australia.

The place
The hotel stands at 161 Sussex Street, where the central business district meets Darling Harbour. ICC Sydney and Cockle Bay Wharf are within walking distance, and the upper floors and the new tower look over the harbour and the city skyline.
Hyatt describes the address as adjacent to Darling Harbour, and the convention centre on the harbour side was designed around that view.
The concept
The 2016 project changed two things at once. The flag moved from Four Points by Sheraton to Hyatt Regency, a brand Hyatt said was returning to Sydney, and the tower added 222 rooms to the existing building. Hyatt, which has operated in Australia for more than 30 years, gave no investment figure at the opening beyond a multi-million dollar redevelopment.
Meetings are a large part of the offer. The pillar-less convention centre overlooks Darling Harbour and covers more than 37,100 square feet (3,450 square metres), with two ballrooms that each seat more than 1,000 people. A four-ton car and goods lift and a separate coach check-in facility are meant to handle large groups without crowding the main lobby.
There is no swimming pool, which guest reviews raise regularly. The hotel has a fitness centre open around the clock.
Dining & wellness
Sailmaker is a 272-seat all-day restaurant. Zephyr, the open-air bar, was scheduled to open in late December 2016, in time for views of the New Year's Eve fireworks over the harbour. Guest reviews place it on the 15th floor and mention a smart casual dress code.
A Regency Club lounge, which reviewers locate on the 11th floor, serves breakfast, drinks and snacks to club guests.

December 1, 2016: Hyatt announced the opening of Hyatt Regency Sydney on 1 December 2016, the return of the brand to the city. A redevelopment led by owner M&L Hospitality added a 24-storey tower with 222 rooms for a total of 892, a 272-seat all-day restaurant, a Regency Club lounge and a pillar-less convention centre of more than 37,100 square feet with two ballrooms seating over 1,000 each. An open-air bar was due to open in late December.
