Open · October 2025
Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney opened in Haymarket in October 2025, bringing Hyatt's lifestyle-brand experiment to Australia for the first time. Its 174 rooms and single all-day venue, Talk Shop, are built around a co-working, community-first pitch rather than conventional hotel amenities.

The place
The hotel sits at 13 Parker Street in Haymarket, on the edge of Sydney's CBD — a transit-fed pocket where Central Station, the light rail, Chinatown and the Capitol Theatre all fall within a short walk. It is a neighborhood built for movement rather than postcard views, which suits a brand pitched at people passing through on their own terms.
The concept
Caption by Hyatt is the group's newer lifestyle play, aimed at travelers who want a hotel that also functions as a co-working space and a neighborhood hangout, and Central Sydney is its first outing in Australia and the wider Pacific. The 174 rooms run from standard through deluxe and premium categories, with some looking over the CBD skyline and others onto the surrounding streets. Mitchell & Eades handled the interiors, leaning on recycled and repurposed materials rather than the marble-and-brass vocabulary of Hyatt's upscale brands. Local artists Chris Yee, Samy Baby and Hiromi Tango contributed murals and illustrations throughout the public spaces, giving the hotel a distinctly Sydney-made feel rather than a template dropped in from elsewhere in the Hyatt portfolio.
Dining & wellness
Talk Shop is the hotel's single food-and-beverage venue, and it is deliberately hard to categorize — part café, part bar, part co-working room, open through the day and into the evening. Chef Yammi Cheung runs a multicultural, casual menu (a double-down burger, a krapow burger, a salmon rice bowl) alongside house-made iced teas, and the space doubles as a venue for poetry nights, live music and mahjong sessions aimed at drawing in locals, not just guests. There is a gym on site; no spa or pool has been announced.
