The place

875 North Michigan Avenue — the former John Hancock Center, one of Chicago's most recognizable skyscrapers, on the Magnificent Mile.

The concept

Chicago-based developer Hearn is in advanced negotiations with Marriott International to convert roughly 400,000 square feet of largely vacant mid-rise office space, floors 23 through 34, into a 350-room EDITION hotel, with the lobby and entrance sited lower in the tower. The space had previously been marketed to medical tenants without success. As of the reports, the lease was still being finalized and had not yet been executed, so the project is not yet a done deal.

Dining & wellness

Not announced. EDITION properties typically pair a design-forward lobby with on-site dining and bar concepts, but no specific outlets have been confirmed for Chicago.
