citizenM Chicago Downtown

citizenM Chicago Downtown, the brand's first Chicago hotel, opened in September 2022 on Michigan Avenue between the Riverwalk and Millennium Park. The 280-room property occupies the base of a new 47-storey mixed-use tower and carries a large exterior mural by Chicago artist Nina Chanel Abney.

The concept

citizenM's first Chicago property occupies the lower floors of a new 47-storey mixed-use tower that also holds 289 residential units and roughly 25,000 sq ft of retail — a ground-up building rather than a conversion. Chicago artist Nina Chanel Abney was commissioned to turn the building's exterior terrace and entrance walls into a large-scale abstract mural. The hotel follows citizenM's standard format: compact, tech-equipped rooms (iPad-controlled lighting, blinds and TV) paired with a large communal lobby/living-room space.

Dining & wellness

A 24/7 gym and three societyM meeting rooms — bookable by guests and the public, with unlimited coffee included — sit alongside the brand's signature lobby living room, which doubles as bar and co-working space.
