Canopy by Hilton Toronto Yorkville
Canopy brand's Canada debut
Open · 2023
Canopy by Hilton opened its first Canadian property in February 2023, taking a nine-story building between Yorkville and Rosedale on Bloor Street East. The 184-room hotel pairs Studio Munge's oak-and-copper interiors with a restaurant from local hospitality group Terroni, giving the lifestyle brand a distinctly Toronto reading of its "local vibe" concept.

The place
Canopy by Hilton Toronto Yorkville sits at 387 Bloor Street East, on the eastern edge of Yorkville and steps from Rosedale, one of Toronto's more affluent and design-conscious pockets. Sherbourne subway station is close by, putting the Bloor-Yonge retail corridor, the Rosedale Valley ravine trails and the Yorkville gallery district all within easy reach. It is a residential-facing location rather than a downtown-core one, which suits a brand built around neighbourhood immersion more than convention-district convenience, while still keeping guests a short ride from Toronto's financial district and entertainment venues.
The concept
The hotel is a joint venture between Hilton, Toronto-based Easton's Group of Hotels and The Gupta Group, marking Canopy by Hilton's debut in Canada after the brand's earlier launches in the US and UK. Interiors were designed by Studio Munge, the Toronto firm known for hospitality projects across the city, which built the property around curved edges, layered textures and organic motifs — oak millwork paired with copper accents, moody earth tones, and a triple-sided fireplace anchoring one of the public spaces. Local art runs throughout guest rooms and shared areas, consistent with Canopy's standing brand promise of reflecting the neighbourhood it sits in rather than a standardized global look. The 184 "Just-Right" guest rooms occupy the second through ninth floors and include signature canopy beds, blackout curtains on digital wall panels, and views over the surrounding low-rise streetscape. The hotel also offers roughly 3,500 square feet of meeting space, an indoor pool, a fitness centre decorated with local street art, a transfer lounge, and a fleet of Canopy Bikes for guests to explore the neighbourhood — amenities aimed as much at business travellers and small events as at leisure stays, positioning the property as a flexible, moderately upscale option in a lifestyle segment Toronto had until then lacked from Hilton's own portfolio.
Dining & wellness
Día, the hotel's all-day restaurant and wine bar, serves seasonal fare and Roman-style pizza alongside a signature wine program with evening tastings. Virtu Café & Provisions, an all-day café serving locally sourced dishes and coffee, opened several months after the hotel itself. Beyond the regular dining program, the hotel has also hosted 7 Paintings — The Art of Dining, a ticketed seven-course dinner-theatre experience staged on select evenings, layered onto the base restaurant offering rather than replacing it.
