The Anndore House reopened in April 2018 near Yonge and Bloor, converting a 1954 apartment-hotel-turned-Comfort-Hotel into a 115-room boutique property now affiliated with JdV by Hyatt. Silver Hotel Group's four-year renovation kept the original terrazzo staircases and ironwork while adding Constantine, a Mediterranean restaurant, and The Crow's Nest barbershop.

The place

The hotel sits at 15 Charles Street East, at Yonge and Charles, a short walk from the Yonge-Bloor subway interchange and the Yorkville and Church Street districts. The address is a dense midtown crossroads rather than a destination neighbourhood, which is precisely why the building had spent decades as an overlooked budget property before its conversion.

The concept

The building was constructed in 1954 as the Anndore Apartment Hotel, a 120-unit residence designed by architect Wilfred Shulman for Economy Construction, before later operating as a Comfort Hotel — a budget chain flag on a midtown corner with genuine architectural bones. Toronto's Silver Hotel Group bought the property and spent roughly four years on a renovation led by designers Ciccone-Simone and Studio Munge, retaining the original fenestration, iron railings and terrazzo staircases while adding exposed brick, Bertoia chairs, in-room turntables and hex-tile bathrooms. It reopened in April 2018 as the independent Anndore House, since affiliated with Hyatt's JdV by Hyatt collection, with 115 rooms across eight categories including a Master Suite.

Dining & wellness

Constantine, the ground-floor restaurant and lounge, serves Mediterranean-inspired food from an open kitchen through breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Crow's Nest barbershop operates on site, and The Next Level function space with an outdoor terrace hosts private events; there is no spa or pool, with fitness handled through partner gyms.
