The Monarch Hotel opened in April 2026 on St. Charles Avenue, bringing sbe's HQ Hotels & Residences collection to New Orleans in a restored mid-19th-century Italianate building. The 34-room boutique property occupies the former home of Dixie's Bar of Music, a 1940s jazz venue, and pairs Art Deco interiors with the building's original 13-foot ceilings. S Bar, the ground-floor lounge, anchors the hotel's food and drink program.

The concept Sam Nazarian's sbe brings its HQ Hotels & Residences collection to New Orleans in a building that housed Dixie's Bar of Music in the 1940s, the jazz venue run by clarinetist and bandleader Yvonne 'Miss Dixie' Fasnacht and once home to a 35-foot Xavier Gonzalez mural now preserved at the New Orleans Jazz Museum. Developer Bates Development and builder The McDonnel Group restored the Italianate shell, 13-foot ceilings and all, and layered in Art Deco details for a 34-room boutique property aimed at design-minded locals and creatives as much as visiting business travelers.
Dining & wellness S Bar, a lobby lounge serving craft cocktails and light shareable plates, is the hotel's sole dining venue at launch.
Our take Thirty-four rooms is a genuinely small footprint for a St. Charles Avenue address, which is precisely the point: this reads as a neighborhood lounge with rooms attached rather than a conventional hotel, and the Dixie's Bar of Music history gives it a real story rather than a marketing one.

The Monarch Hotel Orleans completely exceeded my expectations. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was incredible—the lobby smells amazing, the design is beautiful, and the entire property has an upscale, welcoming vibe that immediately makes you feel like you’re somewhere special.
The service was absolutely impeccable. Every member of the staff was friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed to care about making our stay exceptional.
The biggest surprise, though, was S Bar. This isn’t just “good hotel food”—this is genuinely some of the best food I’ve had in New Orleans. The ingredients tasted incredibly fresh, the flavors were thoughtfully balanced, and every dish was prepared with obvious care and attention to detail. The cocktails were equally impressive—creative, perfectly crafted, and made with high-quality ingredients. I would honestly come back to the Monarch just to eat and have drinks at S Bar.
Even the little details stood out. The soaps and shampoos smelled incredible and added to the overall luxury experience. It’s rare to find a hotel where every element, from the amenities to the food to the service, feels so intentional.
The Monarch has officially become my number one place to stay whenever I’m in New Orleans. Whether you’re visiting for business, a weekend getaway, or just looking for an unforgettable dining experience, do yourself a favor and stay here. You won’t regret it.
I had a wonderful stay at the Monarch Hotel. The staff was incredibly accommodating and made sure I had everything I needed throughout my visit. One thing I really appreciated was that the hotel hosted an event during my stay, which gave guests something fun and convenient to do without ever disrupting the peaceful atmosphere of the property.
The rooms remained quiet and comfortable, making it easy to relax. The food and bar were absolutely amazing, and the bartenders were especially friendly, welcoming, and attentive. They truly added to the overall experience.
The hotel itself has so much character and is beautifully decorated. Every space feels thoughtfully designed and unique. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable and enjoyable hotel experience.
We had an amazing stay at Hotel Monarch! From the moment we arrived, the attention to detail was evident. The hotel was exceptionally clean, and the room was beautifully designed with a modern, comfortable feel. The customer service was outstanding—everyone was welcoming, friendly, and eager to help.
We also enjoyed cocktails in the hotel lobby, which was the perfect way to unwind after exploring New Orleans. Every part of our stay exceeded our expectations.
I would highly recommend Hotel Monarch to anyone visiting New Orleans and will definitely stay here again on our next trip!
My wife and I just returned from a four (4) night stay at The Monarch. The hotel is brand new and in very good condition. The design touches were very tastefully done.
All staff members we interacted with were helpful and answered any/all questions with a smile. Unfortunately the only person I remember by name is Stefan, but all of our staff interactions were great.
The location on St. Charles Avenue cannot be beat. We walked all over the city and this location was super convenient.
The room we were in (401) was nicely done and had a great view out on to St. Charles Avenue. We had a couple of very small issues with the room: (1) the entry door stuck...don't know if it was from the fresh paint or what, but a couple of times I had to put my shoulder into it to open the door; (2) there was no local TV (minor issue)...the only live TV was through Samsung Live TV, it would have been nice to have local channels and CNN/Fox News; (3) the room was not straightened up every day, but was done when I asked (the hotel website says that they have daily housekeeping).
The bathroom was well laid out and spacious. The shower was very nice.
Overall, we had a great stay and loved the hotel. The minor issues will likely be worked out and would not keep us from staying at The Monarch the next time we are in New Orleans.
We didn't stay at the hotel, we stopped in for a snack and drink. It was great. The cocktails and the food. We loved the marinated Olives ❣️ Curtis was amazing. He took great care of us. Will definitely be back and maybe stay at the Monarch.
