The place
The address is on the Lower Garden District side of Prytania Street, near Coliseum Square. St. Charles Avenue and its streetcar line, which connects the neighborhood to downtown and the riverfront, are a few blocks away.
The Garden District Hotel, the larger sister property under the same operator, is one block away.
The concept
Dallas-based Dreamscape Hospitality opened The Blackbird in November 2024 and The Garden District Hotel in June 2025. The Blackbird is the smaller of the two, with 13 rooms against 47.
The building had housed a children's home before it became a hotel, and Jeannine Jacob Interiors designed the redesigned interiors with that history in mind. The exterior is black, in keeping with the name. Each room has its own design, and the Premium Suite, the top category, has a private balcony.
A pool sits in the middle of the property, surrounded by greenery, with a pool bar and extra seating.
Dining & wellness
The lobby bar serves cocktails. The Blackbird Café sells local coffee from Cherry Coffee Roasters, custom teas and small bites. The pool has its own bar.
Event space is available for weddings and private gatherings and is shared with The Garden District Hotel.
