Regent Hong Kong reopened on 8 November 2023 after the InterContinental Hong Kong closed for a three-year, ground-up renovation led by designer Chi Wing Lo. The 497-room hotel, at 18 Salisbury Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, returns to the Regent name and address it first opened under in 1980, before a 2001 sale rebranded it InterContinental for more than two decades.

The concept The hotel at 18 Salisbury Road first opened as the Regent Hong Kong on 1 October 1980, developed by New World Development and managed by Regent International Hotels, and quickly became one of the city's defining luxury addresses for its unobstructed harbour views. New World sold the hotel to Bass Hotels and Resorts in 2001, and it was rebranded InterContinental Hong Kong that June. After IHG Hotels & Resorts acquired the Regent brand in 2018, it announced plans to restore the flagship hotel to its original name: the InterContinental closed on 20 April 2020 for a three-year, ground-up transformation covering every guest room, public space, restaurant and the building's façade, with Hong Kong-born, Milan-based designer Chi Wing Lo, working on his first hotel project, leading the redesign. The hotel officially reopened as Regent Hong Kong on 8 November 2023, 43 years after it first opened under the same name on the same site.

Our take This is a renovation and rebrand, not a new hotel (the 497 rooms occupy the same building and address the property has held since 1980) but the scale of the transformation (a full three-year closure, an entirely reworked interior, a fresh design from a single named architect) makes it comparable in ambition to a ground-up opening, and the return of the Regent name after 22 years as an InterContinental is a genuinely significant piece of Hong Kong hospitality history rather than a marketing repackaging.

I booked this hotel at the last minute and was pleasantly surprised. It’s rare for a hotel to exceed my expectations to this extent. The staff are always friendly and helpful, the pool area is stunning, and the rooms have everything you could possibly need. The online photos and descriptions simply do not do the hotel justice. I would recommend it without hesitation. A nice extra touch is that if you have an evening departure, you can still use the changing rooms to freshen up and get ready before leaving.
. Located in an upscale area that is literally on the Harbor called Harborside) near the museum of art, the cultural center and the Peninsula Hotel. The one-bedroom suite is lovely but like all of the hotels so far in Asia, the only drawers in the room hold coffee and tea utensils, glassware and the built in safe. This means if you are not hanging up your clothes, they need to sit on a shelf or you use your suitcase to Rooms are totally renovated and modern utilizing wall panels with touch screens to manage the lights, the lights intensity, the ac temperature, the black out shades and even the snoozing light so you can see enough to use the bathroom facilities in the middle of the night. The sheets and towels are high quality and very comfortable.
Breakfast is excellent but the lines are seriously long for a 5-star hotel. Their award-winning Chinese restaurant needs 24 hours advance notice if you want Peking Duck. Everything at this 5-star hotel is pricey but the service is top notch. The outdoor pool is lovely, there is a gym and a bar/lounge that doubles for high tea service and they have a singer play in the evenings.
Hong Kong closes up on the early side with most restaurants closing by 10am and bars not long afterward. We were told that after covid most people do not go out weekday nights, instead heading home after work. There are a plethora of high end shops in the next door K11 mall. The ferry to Hong Kong island is a few minute walk.
I went to the Ladies’ market, which was well, a market and you need to bargain for whatever you buy. The hotel concierge service is most helpful and quite good.

My husband and I were absolutely overwhelmed by the service and all the wonderful surprises during our entire stay at The Regent, which far exceeded my expectations. This is truly the best hotel I have ever stayed at. From the incredible food to the flawless service across all departments—F&B, the lounge, concierge, and the front desk—everything felt absolutely perfect.
An exceptional experience like this clearly reflects having an outstanding General Manager at the helm.

I think this is my favorite hotel I’ve ever stayed at in Hong Kong.
Every time I visit Hong Kong, what I love most is the view of Victoria Harbour. There’s something so special about walking along the harbourfront at night and taking in the incredible skyline.
This stay was especially memorable because the hotel is located right on the harbourfront, making it incredibly convenient to go for a walk by the water whenever I wanted. The best part was being able to enjoy a completely unobstructed front-row view of Victoria Harbour directly from my room. Whether it was during the day or at night, the view was absolutely stunning. Waking up to this breathtaking scenery in the morning and ending the day with the same spectacular view is one of the greatest joys of staying here.
On top of that, the service is exactly what you would expect from a world-class luxury hotel. After the renovation, the hotel feels beautifully refreshed, combining classic elegance with a modern and sophisticated atmosphere.
Staying here has become one of the most unforgettable highlights of my visits to Hong Kong, and I would absolutely love to return whenever I have the chance to visit again.
