Municipal Grand

Municipal Grand opened on 10 July 2025 in Savannah's north Historic District, at the corner of Abercorn and Broughton Streets. It is the first hotel from Midnight Auteur, the hospitality company formed by the founders of the cocktail bar Death & Co and the Ramble Hotel in Denver. It has 44 rooms in a six-storey building from 1961.

The place

The corner of Abercorn and Broughton Streets puts the hotel on one of the main commercial crossings of the Historic District, a few blocks from the squares that organise Savannah's old grid.

Its most recent name was the Broughton Municipal Building.

The concept

The building was put up in 1961 for the First Federal Savings and Loan Association. AAmp Studio led the redesign with Lynch Associates Architects and the preservation firm Ward Architecture + Preservation. They kept gray granite walls, white concrete frames, blue mosaic tile and the structural columns, and added softer curves and tropical modernist touches drawn from Brazilian and Finnish design.

The announcement came in March 2024, with an opening promised for early 2025. The hotel opened about five months after that target.

Rooms run from queens to king suites, and some have outdoor patios with lounge seating. The king rooms and suites are accessible. Each room has a minibar built around spirits and glassware, in keeping with the owners' background.

Dining & wellness

Death & Co designed the lobby bar and all-day restaurant, Municipal Bar, a semicircular counter with curved wood banquettes and contemporary art. It serves cocktails and seasonal dishes through the day.

On the roof, the Sun Club is a pool deck with lounge chairs and city views. In the basement, the Hot Eye is the late-night bar.
