North Point Hospitality opened this 170-room AC Hotel by Marriott on Savannah's River Street on April 11, 2025, a ground-up build rather than the historic conversions that dominate the surrounding blocks. It stands out chiefly for its LEED Platinum certification, an unusually high sustainability bar for new hotel construction.

The place

The hotel occupies a new-build address at 601 East River Street, on the working stretch of Savannah's cobblestoned riverfront lined with cotton warehouses turned shops and restaurants. City Market and the oak-shaded squares of the Historic District start within a few blocks' walk, and the Savannah River is visible from most upper floors, including the rooftop level.

The concept

Developed and operated by Atlanta-based North Point Hospitality, the AC Hotel Savannah Historic District is ground-up construction rather than a conversion, a rarity on a riverfront otherwise built out of adapted 19th-century warehouses. The project pairs AC Hotels' European-inflected, minimalist design language with brick and ironwork details that nod to the surrounding district, and it became one of a small number of hotels in North America to earn LEED Platinum certification for new construction, the U.S. Green Building Council's top rating, on the strength of its energy performance, water efficiency and use of forest-certified wood. Architecture is by Savannah firm GMSHAY Architecture + Urban Design. The 170 rooms and suites target a business and leisure mix drawn to River Street's density of attractions, backed by more than 4,000 square feet of meeting space aimed at the corporate and small-group bookings the AC brand has built its reputation on elsewhere in the Marriott portfolio.

Dining & wellness

An eighth-floor restaurant and rooftop bar serve handcrafted cocktails alongside river views, complementing more than 4,000 square feet of flexible meeting space for groups. No spa or pool has been reported at the property.
