Hyatt Place Brisbane, South City Square

Hyatt Place Brisbane, a 170-room, 18-storey hotel within the $700 million South City Square precinct in Woolloongabba, was announced in 2019 as Hyatt's first return to Queensland in a decade. Developed by Pellicano and Perri Projects and designed by Woods Bagot, the hotel was originally due to open in 2023, but no confirmed opening date has since been announced.

148 Logan Road, Woolloongabba, within the roughly $700 million South City Square precinct, near the under-construction Cross River Rail Woolloongabba station.

The concept

Hyatt was announced as the hotel operator for South City Square in April 2019, beating out seven other international hotel brands, marking Hyatt's return to Queensland for the first time since it ended its relationships with Sanctuary Cove and the Hyatt Regency Coolum on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast in 2012, and only its second Queensland property after the Hyatt Regency Brisbane. The 18-storey, Woods Bagot-designed tower sits on an 18,000-square-metre site within a seven-tower, roughly 900-apartment masterplan, with guest rooms occupying levels 11 to 17 above ground-floor retail, a lobby lounge and fitness centre, and commercial office space on levels five to nine. Amended 2022 plans redesigned the building's 900-square-metre rooftop into a cantilevered "nest" over the building's edges, alongside a new hotel lobby and staircase connecting to a restaurant, bar and meeting space on level two. As of the 2022 amended filing, three of the precinct's residential towers were complete and occupied, with a fourth under construction; the hotel remained the precinct's fifth stage.

Dining & wellness

Plans include a rooftop pool and bar with panoramic CBD views, a ground-floor restaurant and bar off the redesigned lobby, an 800-square-metre wellness centre on level 10, a 2,000-square-metre gym, and a 24-hour grab-and-go food market alongside 11 ground-floor retail tenancies.
