Adina Apartment Hotel Brisbane

TFE Hotels opened Adina Apartment Hotel Brisbane in July 2018 inside the heritage-listed former Queensland Government Savings Bank building on George Street, the first time the 1922 structure has operated as a hotel. The 200-plus-room apartment hotel restored the building's original banking chamber into its lobby, restaurant and bar, alongside studio and multi-bedroom apartments for the Brisbane CBD.

The place

The hotel occupies 171 George Street in the Brisbane CBD, close to Queen Street Mall and a roughly 15-minute walk from South Bank. The building was Brisbane's first high-rise government office tower and one of the city's first steel-framed structures, giving the hotel a heritage address in the heart of the business district rather than a purpose-built shell.

The concept

Adina Apartment Hotel Brisbane opened in July 2018 inside the former Queensland Government Savings Bank building, completed in 1922 after nine years of construction delayed by wartime material shortages. TFE Hotels carried out a conservation and restoration of the heritage-listed structure — which also once housed Queensland's first radio station, 4QG, on its top floor — before converting it directly into the Adina Apartment Hotels brand, the building's first and only use as a hotel. The former ground-floor banking chamber, with its columns, ornate ceiling and marble finishes, now serves as the hotel's lobby, restaurant and bar space, while upper floors hold studio and one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments with kitchens aimed at both business and longer-stay guests.

Dining & wellness

Donna Chang, serving Sichuan- and Cantonese-influenced Chinese cuisine, occupies the restored banking chamber for lunch and dinner, with the 250-seat Boom Boom Room below it in the building's former bank vaults for cocktails. St Marks Road Co. handles coffee and breakfast in the lobby. The hotel also has a gym and a pool for apartment guests.
