Hotel Indigo Brisbane City Centre

Hotel Indigo made its Queensland debut in July 2022 with a 212-room boutique property on Turbot Street, at North Quay in the heart of the Brisbane CBD. The opening paired IHG's neighborhood-storytelling brand with a design brief built entirely around local artists and local stories, from a pair of six-metre red doors to hand-painted murals inside. It gave Brisbane its first Hotel Indigo and added a lifestyle option to a CBD riverside stretch dominated by convention-style towers.

The place

The hotel sits at 27-35 Turbot Street in North Quay, on the northern bank of the Brisbane River within the central business district. The address places it close to Roma Street Parkland and Roma Street station, and within easy reach of the South Bank cultural precinct, Queen Street Mall and the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre across the river. It is a CBD-edge location rather than a riverside resort setting, aimed squarely at business travelers and visitors attending events nearby, with the walkable core of Brisbane's shopping and dining strip a short distance away.

The concept

Hotel Indigo Brisbane City Centre is Hotel Indigo's first property in Queensland and one of a small handful the brand operates in Australia. IHG built the concept around Brisbane-specific storytelling rather than a standardized template: interiors by Sydney studio JPDC lean on local history and everyday city detail, most visibly at the entrance, where two red doors spanning six metres reference the small "fairy doors" found in Brisbane's Burnett Lane. Inside, hand-painted murals and artworks by Queensland artists run through public spaces and guest floors, alongside a graffiti-styled coffee cart and black-and-white historical imagery of the city. The 212 rooms and suites follow Hotel Indigo's boutique-lifestyle positioning, with 24-hour room service and premium bedding as standard rather than differentiating features. The brand pitch — design and programming drawn from the immediate neighborhood rather than a corporate playbook — sits at the center of how IHG has marketed the opening, positioning the hotel as a stylish, city-facing alternative to the international-chain hotels that dominate this part of the Brisbane CBD.

Dining & wellness

Izakaya Publico is the hotel's signature restaurant, built around Australia's first Warayaki grill for flame-searing local produce, and doubles as the venue for daily breakfast before shifting to private dining and events in the evening. Bar 1603, on the first floor, is a speakeasy-styled bar blending Japanese minimalism with Brisbane flair, serving modern Japanese-inspired dishes alongside sake, craft cocktails and wine across brunch, lunch and dinner service. A lobby coffee cart adds a casual, walk-up option, and in-room dining runs 24 hours.
