The Merchant Hotel, a member of Radisson Individuals

The Merchant Hotel, a member of Radisson Individuals, opened on 31 July 2026 at 63-65 Turbot Street in Brisbane's CBD. It has 58 rooms, is owned and operated by Mandala Hotels & Resorts, and is the first Radisson Individuals hotel in Queensland.

The place

Turbot Street sits in the legal, corporate and government precinct of the city centre. Brisbane City Hall is about 190 metres away, Queen Street Mall about 350 metres and Roma Street Parkland about 700 metres. South Bank, Suncorp Stadium, the Queensland Museum and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre are within easy reach, as are Fish Lane and South Brisbane.

The street once belonged to the Roma Street markets, which moved in 1964. A whisky bar, The Merchant Exchange, now occupies an old building at number 67, next door but separate from the hotel.

The concept

The project was first announced in January 2026 under the working name Sixty-Five Hotel Brisbane. It opened under the Radisson Individuals banner, the group's soft-brand collection for independent hotels, and the name and interiors refer to the Roma Street markets that once made this area a centre of trade. Exposed materials, timber finishes, industrial detailing and artwork carry the idea through the building.

A directory lists the building as dating from 1916, over four floors, but no primary source confirms its history or any heritage listing.

Radisson's chief operating officer for the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia Pacific, Tim Cordon, called the opening an important milestone for the group in Australia. General manager Ayub Dahani described the hotel as combining contemporary comfort, service and a link to the city's heritage.

Dining & wellness

There is no restaurant. The Lounge, at the centre of the hotel, offers hot desks with charging points and seating for informal meetings, along with a selection of wines, beers, sparkling wines and soft drinks.
