IHG has relaunched the former Hotel X Fortitude Valley as The Alva, its Vignette Collection debut in Brisbane. The hotel is built around the neighbourhood's music and art scene, from a rooftop pool to two suites stocked with record players and vinyl. The hotel is led by General Manager Daniel Gerritse. Alva means light.

The place
The Alva stands in Fortitude Valley at 458 Brunswick Street, near James Street, Howard Smith Wharves and the Fortitude Music Hall: Brisbane's densest strip of live music, dining and nightlife.
The concept
The former Hotel X has been reborn as The Alva, IHG's first Vignette Collection address in Brisbane, part of the group's Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio. The reinvention leans on the neighbourhood's music pedigree rather than a generic lifestyle template.
Two signature suites belong to a programme called Sounds of Alva. Each has a record player and a vinyl collection by homegrown Brisbane artists, and in-room digital recommendations point guests to local gig guides and live music listings. Rooms are described as light-filled and designed for working and resting; they carry original abstract artworks, Grown Alchemist amenities and a Sleep Edit with a pillow menu and sleep sprays. Select categories have private balconies, and the hotel accepts dogs.
The lobby has been redone with a reception area, artworks and a shop called Alva at Home. Guests can also leave postcards at reception for the hotel to post, and the team provides city guides written with local personalities. The hotel has a partnership with The Hotel School Australia, supporting Vignette Collection's A Means For Good initiative.
Dining & wellness
Iris Rooftop Bar and Restaurant serves a Spanish-inspired menu with skyline views, beside a refreshed 15-metre rooftop pool with cabanas. Bisou Bisou is a French bistro. Both are run by the Brisbane-based Ghanem Group Hospitality.
A 24-hour fitness centre, a dedicated co-working space and flexible meeting and event rooms complete the offer. No spa has been announced.

July 30, 2026: IHG Hotels & Resorts introduced The Alva Hotel Brisbane, Vignette Collection, formerly Hotel X, in Fortitude Valley. The hotel offers two signature suites with record players and Brisbane vinyl as part of Sounds of Alva, a refreshed 15-metre rooftop pool with cabanas, Iris Rooftop Bar and Restaurant and the French bistro Bisou Bisou, both run by Ghanem Group Hospitality, a 24-hour gym and a co-working space. General Manager is Daniel Gerritse.
