The place
The hotel occupies a corner site at Church and Trade streets in the heart of Uptown Charlotte, a ground-up building completed in 2020 as the Kessler Collection's second North Carolina property.
The concept
Grand Bohemian Hotel Charlotte was built from scratch as a purpose-designed luxury boutique property, its facade and public spaces drawing on the ornamental, artisan-heavy Vienna Secession movement of early-20th-century Austria. The design is inseparable from Richard C. Kessler's personal art collection, which fills the lobby, guest corridors and event spaces with an eclectic, gallery-like density rather than the generic art usually found in a big-box hotel. The $110 million project was delayed twice by the pandemic before its August 2020 debut, opening into a badly disrupted travel market — a tough proving ground for a hotel pitched squarely at leisure and business travelers wanting a design-forward alternative to Uptown's convention-hotel towers.
Dining & wellness
The property includes an open-kitchen restaurant, a faster-casual eatery, a ground-floor Starbucks, a rooftop bar with city views, an executive lounge, and the Poseidon Spa, plus indoor and outdoor event space.
