Canopy by Hilton Charlotte SouthPark

The first Canopy by Hilton in North Carolina, this ground-up, 150-room hotel opened in SouthPark in July 2020 on a site that was once a dairy farm. It brought Hilton's lifestyle-leaning, neighborhood-inspired brand to Charlotte's upscale retail and corporate district for the first time.

The place

Located at 4905 Barclay Downs Drive in SouthPark, Charlotte's upscale retail and corporate hub, the five-story hotel was newly constructed on a site that was previously farmland, with no prior hotel use.

The concept

Canopy by Hilton Charlotte SouthPark introduced Hilton's neighborhood-focused lifestyle brand to North Carolina, leaning on Wilson Associates' interiors — millwork finishes, marble countertops and earth tones — to nod to Southern hospitality and the surrounding SouthPark community rather than a generic corporate look. It opened in July 2020, just as the leisure and business-travel market was beginning to reopen after the initial pandemic shutdown. As a Canopy property, the hotel is built around neighborhood-style social spaces — a communal-table restaurant, an English-garden-inspired event lawn and an evening tasting ritual — positioning it as a lifestyle alternative to the corporate-branded hotels that dominate SouthPark's office corridor.

Dining & wellness

The hotel's Fine & Fettle / Canopy Central restaurant and bar uses communal tables and local, seasonal ingredients; amenities include roughly 9,000 square feet of meeting space, a fitness center, a garden-style event lawn, a Transfer Lounge for luggage and changing, and a pet-friendly program.
