The place
In Ashbourne, a commuter town in County Meath north of the capital, about 25 minutes from Dublin Airport. Hilton counts it within Greater Dublin, which is why the hotel is filed under the Dublin destination.
The concept
This is a conversion, not a new building. The hotel currently trades as the Pillo Hotel, a four-star property that a 2016 report dated to 2007 and that has changed hands since, with the Brogan brothers reported as buyers at that time. Hilton does not name the current owner in its announcement.
Hilton says a comprehensive refurbishment will upgrade the guest rooms, the public spaces, the restaurants and the bars before the hotel reopens under the DoubleTree flag. The company gives 156 rooms; some listings for the Pillo show 148, so the Hilton figure is the one used here.
It will be the first DoubleTree by Hilton in the Republic of Ireland. Hilton describes Ashbourne as the first of four Irish openings in its current pipeline, which also includes Home2 Suites by Hilton Dublin City Centre on Marlborough Street, a Tapestry Collection hotel in Cork and Tempo by Hilton in Belfast.
Dining & wellness
Hilton says the restaurants and bars will be refurbished, but has not named any concept, chef or venue.
