Coming soon in Parramatta
Parramatta sits on the Parramatta River about 24 kilometres west of Sydney's harbour CBD, and has spent the past decade building out its own skyline of office towers and apartment blocks as the city's official second CBD. This guide currently tracks two projects: DoubleTree by Hilton Parramatta, announced in September 2026, Hilton's first hotel in the area, and InterContinental Parramatta, which received planning consent in January 2026 and would be the district's first five-star hotel.
What to do in Parramatta
A short visit
Parramatta Park, one of Australia's oldest public parks, runs along the river and holds Old Government House, the country's oldest surviving public building. Riverside Theatres and the Church Street dining precinct fill in an evening, and the Parramatta Light Rail connects the CBD's main sights without a car.
A longer stay
With more time, Parramatta's train and light-rail connections make central Sydney a straightforward half-hour trip, and the Western Sydney Parklands, one of the largest urban parks in the Southern Hemisphere, are a short drive south.
Where to stay in Parramatta
DoubleTree by Hilton Parramatta, targeting late 2028, is planned at 34 Hassall Street inside Cosmopolitan, a mixed-use precinct developed by Deicorp Group, next to the Parramatta Light Rail and within reach of Parramatta Railway Station and Wharf. Trilogy Hotels will operate the 100-room property under a Hilton franchise agreement signed in September 2026: the first Hilton-flagged hotel in Parramatta.
InterContinental Parramatta, indicatively around 2028, is Holdmark Property Group's 212-room tower at 197-207 Church Street, opposite Parramatta Square. The Sydney Central City Planning Panel granted consent in January 2026 after almost five years of assessment, and plans include a rooftop bar and restaurant, spa, pool and a basement ballroom. Construction has not been confirmed, so the opening date remains an estimate.
Which hotel for your trip
For a business or events-led stay close to Parramatta Square, InterContinental is the one to watch, with its ballroom and event space. The DoubleTree suits a simpler stay beside the light rail, with a smaller room count and an all-day dining restaurant.
