Oklahoma City's former tallest building, a 1931 Art Deco bank tower left vacant for years, reopened in spring 2022 as The National, a 146-room Autograph Collection hotel built around restored marble, murals, and the bank's original vault doors. It's the anchor of a mixed-use revival of downtown's First National Center.

The place

The hotel occupies the lower floors of the First National Center, a 32-story Art Deco landmark at 120 North Robinson Avenue in the heart of downtown Oklahoma City, once the tallest building in the state.

The concept

The National is the anchor hospitality piece of a sweeping adaptive-reuse project that turned the long-vacant First National Center — a bank tower on the National Register of Historic Places — into a mixed-use complex with 146 guestrooms, 193 residential apartments, and street-level dining. Coury Hospitality and its design and restoration team kept the building's Art Deco bones intact: restored murals, marble columns, and the original bank vault doors are worked into the public spaces, while guestrooms and a rooftop deck bring in a contemporary layer. It is one of the largest historic hotel conversions in Oklahoma City's recent history, and its opening was treated locally as a turning point for a downtown core that had struggled to fill its early-20th-century office stock. The scale of the restoration — four distinct dining concepts, a ballroom, a spirits library housed in the old vault — signals an ambition to compete for both leisure travelers and downtown business and event demand.

Dining & wellness

Four in-house venues cover most occasions: Tellers (Italian), The Great Hall (all-day European-style bar), Stock & Bond (steakhouse), and The Library of Distilled Spirits, a 1,500-bottle collection housed in a former bank vault; dining was originally overseen by Apicii with chef Jonathan Benno. The hotel also has a rooftop deck with a heated infinity pool, a fitness center, and a barbershop/blowout bar.
