The place
OKANA sits along the Oklahoma River in the Horizons District, a riverfront tourism zone a short distance from downtown Oklahoma City that the resort was built to help anchor.
The concept
Developed by the Chickasaw Nation at a cost of roughly $400 million, OKANA soft-opened on February 21, 2025, with a full grand opening on March 6. The 11-story, 404-room resort was built entirely new on the Oklahoma River and is the largest single tourism investment the city has seen in this window, combining an indoor waterpark — Oklahoma's largest, with a wave pool, lazy river, surf simulator, and 15 slides — with a 4.5-acre outdoor lagoon. Its scale sets it apart from every other opening on this list: it is a family-resort play first and a hotel second, aimed at multi-day leisure stays rather than business or design-forward boutique travel, and its opening was framed locally as a cornerstone of the Horizons District's development.
Dining & wellness
More than a dozen food, beverage, and retail outlets are spread across the resort, alongside a day spa and a fitness center; the indoor waterpark and 4.5-acre outdoor adventure lagoon are the property's headline amenities rather than a traditional restaurant program.
