Palacio Provincial San Juan, Curio Collection by Hilton

In Old San Juan, a 19th-century seat of Spanish colonial administration spent its first two centuries as anything but a hotel. Since 2021 it has run as a 43-room adults-only property on Plaza de Armas, and since 2024 it has done so as Hilton's first Curio Collection address in Puerto Rico.

The place

The hotel occupies a corner of Calle San Francisco facing Plaza de Armas in Old San Juan, a few minutes' walk from the Cathedral of San Juan Bautista and roughly 800 meters from El Morro. It is Hilton's first property in the historic district, joining sister hotel El Convento a short stroll away.

The concept

The building dates to 1838, when it housed the Provincial Deputation of Spain in Puerto Rico — the colonial administration's seat — and later served government and postal functions before standing vacant for decades. A restoration completed in 2021 turned it into a 43-room adults-only hotel, its first use as a hotel in the structure's history, retaining 12-foot wooden window doors and Juliet balconies overlooking the plaza. It operated as an independent member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts' Lifestyle LVX collection before Hilton signed it into the Curio Collection in March 2024.

Dining & wellness

Consular Restaurant & Bar occupies the interior courtyard, serving breakfast through dinner. Atelier, the rooftop terrace and bar, has an infinity pool overlooking San Juan Bay and includes a daily glass of rosé or sparkling wine for guests as part of the resort charge.
