Where LoDo and RiNo are converted warehouse districts, Cherry Creek is a low-rise retail and residential neighborhood built around two poles: the Cherry Creek Shopping Center, one of the largest malls in the Rocky Mountain region, and Cherry Creek North, the sixteen-block grid of galleries, boutiques and restaurants immediately to its north. What to do in Cherry Creek

For a weekend

The neighborhood is the activity. Cherry Creek North's grid — roughly 1st to 3rd Avenues between University and Steele — holds most of the independent galleries and restaurants, and it is genuinely walkable in a way much of Denver is not. The shopping center across 1st Avenue covers the national and luxury retail side.

The Cherry Creek Trail runs along the creek itself and connects the neighborhood directly to downtown: about three miles of paved path, flat, usable on foot or by bike, ending near Confluence Park where Cherry Creek meets the South Platte. It is the most pleasant way to get between the two areas.

For a longer stay

Cherry Creek pairs naturally with the rest of central Denver. The Denver Botanic Gardens are about a mile north-west, and the museums of the Golden Triangle — including the Denver Art Museum — are between the neighborhood and downtown. LoDo holds Union Station, Coors Field and the densest concentration of bars; RiNo is the arts and brewery district north-east of downtown.

For the mountains, Cherry Creek's position on the south-east side is a mild disadvantage: reaching I-70 westbound means crossing the city first. Denver International Airport is roughly 40 minutes by car to the north-east.
