SWG3 Hotel

SWG3, the Glasgow music venue and arts campus, has planning permission for a 142-room independent hotel next door, designed by Stallan-Brand as a vertical stack of restaurants, bars, co-working space and a rooftop terrace. Approval came through in September 2024, but no construction has visibly started since and no updated opening date has been confirmed.

The concept

Marketed as 'a hotel for music lovers,' SWG3 Hotel would be a new-build 13-storey tower on vacant land, designed as a vertical stack of distinct experiences rather than a conventional room-corridor layout, with pricing described by its backers as accessible rather than aimed purely at the top of the market. Planning and listed-context approval came through in September 2024, but no evidence of a construction start has surfaced since, and the project's own earlier 'late 2026' opening target — set before that approval — has not been updated with a more current date.

Plans describe two restaurants, two bars, a ground-floor café-bar, co-working spaces, a gym with sauna and steam room, a movement studio, meeting rooms and a rooftop terrace — an ambitious amenity list for an independent, unbranded hotel, none of it operational yet.
