Arthouse Glasgow

Arthouse Glasgow is the first hotel of Oberland, a British group that buys heritage buildings and restores them. It occupies 129 Bath Street in the city centre, a building that was already a hotel under the Arthouse and ABode names before Oberland and the investment platform RealVantage bought it in 2025. After a refurbishment led by the London studio A-nrd, it reopened in the early summer of 2026 with 76 rooms, 17 more than the previous layout.

The place

The address is 129 Bath Street, on the grid of streets north of George Square that holds much of Glasgow's central shopping and office life. The building is a restored 19th-century landmark protected by listing. Accounts of its origins differ: the announcement dates it to 1829 and links it to Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman, the future Prime Minister, while other guides describe it as a school board building of a later period. Both agree it sat in the city centre long before it became a hotel.

The concept

Oberland bought the building in 2025 with RealVantage, and the hotel is managed by C1 Capital, which led the transition. The previous owners had run it as the ABode and then the Arthouse Hotel. The refurbishment was entrusted to A-nrd, the London studio of Lukas Persakovas and Alessio Nardi, who describe the interiors as instinctive and lived-in, inspired by an artist's residence where things look slightly imperfect on purpose, and who draw on biophilic principles.

The reconfiguration added 17 rooms to the earlier layout. There are four en-suite categories. Pocket rooms, new to the building, start at £99 a night, Classic rooms at £149 and suites at £229.

The lobby keeps its Victorian tiles and a birdcage lift. In the lounge, walls, ceilings and joinery are painted a deep olive green, with leather and wood furniture, mid-century tubular steel chairs, bouclé sofa chairs and velvet banquettes set under tall arched windows. The wall sconces were designed by A-nrd. Oberland has said a second hotel, in Manchester, is planned for later in 2026.

Dining & wellness

Celentano's, the Glasgow Italian restaurant, has its dining room on the ground floor. A bar serving the restaurant's own liqueurs is open to residents and to non-residents alike. The hotel has not published a seating count or a separate breakfast arrangement.
