The place
The hotel stands at the junction of Renfrew Street and Renfield Street, on the site of the former Scottish Television (STV) headquarters, which was demolished after the broadcaster relocated to Pacific Quay in 2006. It sits in the heart of Glasgow's theatre and shopping district, a short walk from Buchanan Galleries and the Theatre Royal.
The concept
Maldron Hotel Glasgow City is a wholly new-build property, part of the wider regeneration of the old STV block alongside a neighbouring citizenM hotel and a refurbished Theatre Royal. It was the first Scottish opening for Dalata Hotel Group, Ireland's largest hotel operator, and represents the group's mid-to-upscale Maldron brand rather than its more design-led Clayton line. The 12-storey, 300-room tower was built at a reported cost of around £40 million and was conceived from the outset as a hotel rather than adapted from another use, giving Dalata a blank slate to fit modern floorplates, a double-height ground-floor lobby and consistent room specification across all ten guest floors.
Dining & wellness
The hotel has an in-house Grain & Grill restaurant serving food made from fresh, local produce, alongside a 24-hour fitness suite with treadmills, a cross-trainer, a bike, a rowing machine and free weights. No spa is advertised.
