Hyde Melbourne Place is Ennismore's Australian debut under the Hyde name. It occupies the former Melbourne Place building at 130 Russell Street, a red-brick tower of 13 floors by the architecture studio Kennedy Nolan, converted to 191 rooms and suites. Ennismore announced an official opening for 2 May 2025. Two independent reviews describe a quieter opening in late 2024, so the sources differ on when the first guests arrived.

The place
Russell Street cuts through the east of the CBD. From the door, the National Gallery of Victoria, Federation Square and the Yarra are about a 15-minute walk. Embla, Gimlet and Grill Americano, all well known Melbourne addresses, are close by.
The building sits in a part of the grid known for its red-brick facades, and the hotel's interiors take their cue from that.
The concept
The rooms are earth-toned and colour-coded by orientation: green for east-facing, blue for north, gold for west. Standard queen rooms are on the lower floors, larger suites higher up, and a multi-room penthouse crowns the building. Local artists and designers are shown from the lobby to the roof.
The hotel belongs to the Dis-loyalty programme, which offers members up to 50 per cent off at more than 100 hotels. Hyde Perth, Mondrian Gold Coast and 25hours Hotel Sydney The Olympia opened in Australia in the same period. Jodi Brown, with more than 14 years in Australian hospitality, was named to help lead the Australian launch, and the property appeared on the Conde Nast Traveller Hot List 2025.
Services include a 24-hour concierge, free Wi-Fi and room service. A pool and gym are not mentioned in the hotel's own material.
Dining & wellness
Three venues. Mid Air is the rooftop diner, serving from early breakfast to late cocktails with a snack-led, Europe-leaning menu. Chef Nicholas Deligiannis is named in local coverage as running it.
Marmelo, on the ground floor, is a coastal Portuguese restaurant by Ross and Sunny Lusted, serving small and shared plates from midday. It was named Victoria state winner in a 2025 award. Mr Mills is the basement speakeasy, with creative cocktails served late.
News
May 2, 2025: Ennismore announced that Melbourne Place would officially open under the Hyde flag on 2 May 2025, its Australian debut. The original building was designed by Melbourne studio Kennedy Nolan, and the hotel was named on the Conde Nast Traveller Hot List 2025.
