Brady Hotel Elizabeth Street

Brady Hotel Elizabeth Street is a 211-room tower at 278 Little Lonsdale Street, at the corner with Elizabeth Street in the Melbourne CBD. Brady Group designed, developed and built it, and operates it, which makes it the first of the group's hotels created entirely in-house rather than taken over or fitted into another owner's building. A pre-opening report in July 2026 gave August as the date. The official opening took place on Wednesday 7 October 2026, with managing director Tony Brady and Lord Mayor Nick Reece among those present. The sources differ on height: the official release counts 31 storeys, while the developer's project page and the hotel's own website say 32.

The place

Guests do not arrive from Elizabeth Street itself. The entrance is on Zevenboom Lane, under a 40-metre mural by Melbourne artist Kitt Bennett, and a glass corridor bordered by gardens leads up to the Level 8 sky lobby, which has a glass dome.

The address is 278 Little Lonsdale Street, a walk from Melbourne Central station and the new State Library station, and from the State Library of Victoria. The site was once a Phillips Shirts building. In 2017 the Victorian planning tribunal approved hotel use for a tower that had been cut back from a first proposal of 59 storeys to about 30 levels.

The concept

Rooms come as king, twin, accessible, skyline, city-view and two-bedroom family types. The City View rooms are semicircular and give 180-degree outlooks over the CBD, while the Premium King rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows. Every room has an opening window, natural light, a walk-in shower, free Wi-Fi and Chromecast.

Shared space is limited and practical. The Level 8 lounge is for guests only and includes a 23 square metre co-working area. There is also a cardio gym, self-serve laundry and 24-hour reception.

Brady has built and run apartments in the CBD since the mid-1970s, more than 2,900 of them according to the group, and handles development, design, construction and operation in-house. With voco Melbourne Central, its hotels now exceed 1,000 rooms in the city.

Dining & wellness

The announcements of the opening mention no restaurant or bar. The only shared spaces named are the Level 8 guest lounge and co-working room, so guests should expect to eat in the surrounding streets of the CBD rather than in the building.
