The Huntington Hotel

The Huntington Hotel closed in 2020 and reopens in spring 2026 with 143 rooms and suites, including a penthouse of nearly 1,500 square feet. Ken Fulk, a designer based in San Francisco, redid the interiors.

The place

The hotel stands at 1075 California Street on Nob Hill. The twelve-story brick building, in Italian Renaissance Revival style, dates from 1922 and first served as an apartment house. It has just been added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The concept

Greg Flynn, founder of Flynn Properties, and the hotel investor Highgate took over the building after the previous owner, Woodridge Capital, defaulted on a $56.2 million mortgage in 2022. Over the years the hotel has hosted Princess Margaret and the Rolling Stones.

Fulk kept the original Georgian architecture: ornate plaster ceilings, paneled walls, tall windows. He describes the project as a grand residence rather than a hotel, built for repeat visitors and for locals. The 143 keys split into 71 rooms and 72 suites, several with bay or city views.

Dining & wellness

The Big Four, a 72-seat dining room, marks its 50th anniversary with the reopening. A new bar, Arabella's, opens too. The Nob Hill Spa spreads over three levels, with a pool, treatment rooms, carved tropical hardwoods and heirloom stone.
