Adelaide Marriott Hotel

The Adelaide Marriott Hotel opened in August 2024 inside the city's historic General Post Office building, becoming South Australia's first Marriott-branded hotel. The AU$200 million project pairs 285 rooms with three dining venues inside a heritage-listed shell restored by Adelaide architects Baukultur.

The place

The hotel occupies Adelaide's General Post Office (GPO), a heritage-listed landmark more than 150 years old on the corner of King William and Franklin Streets, facing Victoria Square in the heart of the CBD.

The concept

The AU$200 million redevelopment, led by Adelaide architecture firm Baukultur, threads a 14-storey tower through and above the heritage GPO shell, pairing original stone facades and postal-era details with 285 contemporary guestrooms and suites, including a Presidential Suite and a 24/7 Club Lounge on the executive floors. It is South Australia's first Marriott-branded property and one of the anchor projects in a wider AU$1.2 billion wave of hotel investment reshaping Adelaide's CBD. The project's selling point is less about novelty of form than about reviving a building Adelaide residents already knew and cared about, giving the hotel a civic weight that new-build towers on the same streets don't have.

Dining & wellness

Dining runs across three venues: the Greatroom at the hotel's heart, Penny Blue for modern Australian plates in a heritage-nostalgic room, and Exchange Lane, a laneway bar that shifts from morning coffee to evening cocktails. Guests also have an 18-metre indoor pool, a fitness studio, and more than 760 square metres of event space including a 295 sqm ballroom.
