Coming soon in Cambridge

No confirmed openings ahead in Cambridge for now.

We track five new hotels in Cambridge, opened between July 2021 and November 2025, split between the historic centre, the university's new Eddington district and Milton Road to the north. Short-break visitors chasing the colleges and the river should book centrally; academic visitors and longer stays suit Eddington or Milton Road, where three of the five properties come with full kitchens. The most recent opening is The Hobson Cambridge by Adina, which arrived in November 2025 inside a Grade II-listed former stable block on St Andrew's Street.

What to do

A weekend in Cambridge

Two days covers the essentials. Spend the first morning walking King's Parade and visiting King's College Chapel, one of the great examples of English Gothic architecture and still an active chapel with a renowned choir, then book a chauffeured punt along the Backs (the stretch of river gardens behind Magdalene College, Trinity's Wren Library and the Bridge of Sighs at St John's) for the classic view of the colleges from the water. In the afternoon, wander the Fitzwilliam Museum's collection of antiquities and paintings or browse the market square's stalls, then finish with dinner in the city centre before the colleges close their grounds to visitors in the evening. On the second day, walk out to the Backs on foot for a slower look at Trinity, Clare and King's from the towpath, and leave time to punt yourself if the weather holds: no experience is required, though a chauffeured tour avoids the learning curve of steering a flat-bottomed boat with a pole.

A full week

A week allows a Cambridge stay to slow down. Visit the Fitzwilliam Museum and the Polar Museum, which tells the story of Scott and Shackleton's Antarctic expeditions, on quieter weekday mornings, and give a full afternoon to a cycle out to Grantchester for the meadows Rupert Brooke wrote about, a short ride or punt from the centre and a popular stop for afternoon tea in the Orchard. For anyone staying in Eddington, the University's Botanic Garden and the West Cambridge science campus are both a short walk or bike ride away, and Cambridge's rail links make a day trip to Ely Cathedral, 20 minutes north by train, an easy addition to a longer stay. Reserve at least one evening for a formal-hall-style dinner if a college offers public sittings, and check punting availability a day ahead in peak summer months, when the river gets genuinely busy by mid-afternoon.

Where to stay

The historic centre

The Hobson Cambridge by Adina occupies St Andrew's Street, inside the Grade II-listed Hobson House (built as 17th-century businessman Thomas Hobson's stables (the source of the phrase "Hobson's choice," from his rigid rental terms for his horses), later the city's police and fire station) a short walk from the colleges. TFE Hotels' Adina brand made its UK debut here in November 2025 with 56 kitchenette-equipped studios and apartments around a glass-roofed courtyard restaurant, Oz & Isle, retaining the building's vaulted ceilings and exposed timber beams through the conversion. A few streets away, Wilde Aparthotels Cambridge City Centre opened in August 2025 on Round Church Street, a 227-apartment new-build above a rebuilt public car park, five minutes from Trinity College: the largest and newest of Cambridge's central options, with heat pumps, solar panels and a rainwater harvesting system behind its academic-themed interiors curated around local and former-resident artists. Both put the colleges, the river and the Backs within easy walking distance, an increasingly rare thing to offer in a city that gives up very few central sites for new hotel development.

Eddington

Eddington, the University of Cambridge's purpose-built sustainable neighbourhood about two miles, or 15 minutes by bike, northwest of the centre, holds two of the city's newest hotels sharing a single block. Hyatt Centric Cambridge opened in October 2021 as the brand's UK debut, a 150-room hotel that was also the 10th Hyatt in the country, aimed at both leisure travelers happy with the trade-off of distance for a purpose-built district and longer academic-visit stays. Turing Locke, edyn's ninth Locke aparthotel, opened the same month next door, sharing a courtyard and block with Hyatt Centric but keeping its own address, entrance, operator and 180 kitchen-equipped apartments: named for Alan Turing, with an all-day restaurant, KOTA, a cocktail bar, Dutch, and complimentary co-working space. Both target BREEAM Excellent and sit inside a neighbourhood built for a longer academic visit or relocation rather than a weekend of sightseeing on foot; Eddington's own shops, cafes and green spaces mean neither hotel depends on a trip into town for daily needs.

Milton Road

The Fellows House Cambridge, Curio Collection by Hilton, opened in July 2021 on Milton Road, about a mile north of the centre across the River Cam and Jesus Green: Hilton's first Curio Collection property in the city and its second Hilton-branded hotel here, built on the site of a primary school left derelict for over a decade before construction began in 2018. Its 131 rooms and apartments, many with kitchens, include studios, one- and two-bedroom apartments and duplex "Fellows" suites named after Cambridge University figures from Turing to Attenborough, alongside an indoor pool, gym, sauna and steam room, plus a boardroom named for Stephen Hawking. It suits relocating professionals, academics and families wanting space and self-catering over sightseeing convenience, at the cost of a walk or short bus ride into the historic core.

Which hotel for your trip

Short breaks and first-time visitors

The Hobson Cambridge by Adina and Wilde Aparthotels Cambridge both put the colleges, King's Parade and the river within a short walk, with Wilde's larger footprint and sustainability features and Hobson's building history (a former stable block and police station with real idiom-origin provenance) each giving a different reason to choose one over the other.

Academic visitors and conferences

Hyatt Centric Cambridge and Turing Locke, sharing a courtyard in Eddington, sit closest to the University's West Cambridge science campus and Botanic Garden: a practical base for a term-time visit or a university-linked conference, at the cost of a longer walk into the historic centre for evening sightseeing.

Families and extended stays

The Fellows House Cambridge's duplex apartments and kitchens, Turing Locke's 180 fully fitted apartments and Wilde's studio and one-bedroom units all suit a stay longer than a weekend, whether that's a relocating family, a visiting academic finishing a term's work, or a group wanting to cook rather than eat out every night.

Sustainability-minded travelers

Wilde Aparthotels Cambridge runs on air source heat pumps, 56 solar panels and a rainwater harvesting system, with a green roof and bee hotels among its biodiversity measures; Turing Locke and Hyatt Centric both target BREEAM Excellent inside Eddington's wider sustainability programme, with solar panels covering roughly 80% of Turing Locke's roof space.
