We had an amazing experience from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, and full of flavour. Every dish exceeded our expectations.
A special thank you to our waiter, Nate, who made the evening even more enjoyable. He was incredibly friendly, funny, and genuinely caring. He checked on us throughout the meal to make sure everything was perfect and that we had everything we needed. His excellent customer service and warm personality made us feel so welcome.
We couldn’t have asked for a better dining experience. Highly recommend this restaurant, and if you’re lucky enough to have Nate looking after you, you’re in for a fantastic evening. We will definitely be back!
This is such a lovely and beautifully designed hotel. But we got put in a handicapped room, and the air conditioning made such loud noise so we barely got any sleep. After a 6 hour drive we desperately needed a good night rest, but unfortunately due to the noise we couldn’t sleep. There was no other bedrooms available so we were stuck with the loud one. Otherwise, the hotel was brilliant. Breakfast was great. Sad that the bedroom was not good, otherwise this would have been a perfect stay.
From the start of our stay to the very end, The Hobson has delivered on so many levels.
First - what an absolutely beautiful, stunning building from the outside. Reflecting the dense medieval architecture of Cambridge itself with it's spires and colleges - the frontage of The Hobson frames a stay here perfectly. The hotel is extremely well placed; a pleasant 15 minute stroll down a straight road from the station and helpfully on the way into Central Cambridge, so it was on our route anyway.
You are instantly welcomed with a clean and tidy lobby area, with pleasant music playing and a gorgeous scent to the place. We were instantly welcomed by the lovely reception team who were friendly, amenable and kind. They knew when we wanted to chat and when we were happy to be left to ourselves. There is a real treat behind reception in the grand staircase and the various displays which have been really tastefully done.
There is a small shop opposite reception selling all sorts of amenities, including macro-friendly meals to enjoy in-room. Again all very carefully selected and tastefully arranged. It all felt effortless. Hallways were clean and the lift was always waiting for us when we arrived back.
Our Premier Studio King apartment was exceptional. Excellent quality linens - bed runner, rug, curtains all of excellent quality and a beautiful set of pillows and cushions on the bed. The lighting was arranged into scenes, selectable using switches placed thoughtfully around the room and it was very easy to create instant atmosphere.
The rooms themselves are well furnished with appropriate and comfortable pieces; a comfortable sofa, a super king bed, a dining table with beautiful chairs, a kitchenette with microwave, kettle, Nespresso machine, bin, fridge and sink. The room was provided with cutlery, cooking utensils, tea towels, coffee pods, teabags, milk and crockery - nothing was missing, however if I needed more i'm certain it was never more than a WhatsApp message or chat with reception away.
Note - There was no onerous registration process for the Wi-Fi, which was appreciated, but it could be faster.
Bathroom - Branded appliances, heated mirror, light scene choices, great quality towels (and plenty of them). The included hand wash and shower items were an Australian brand (Ink&Water) and the scent was Tea and Amber - unique, lovely and I wish it was more widely sold here in the UK as I'd buy it in an instant.
Sleep - we had noted on the booking we wanted a quiet, restful stay on a high floor and this was duly noted and we were placed in a quiet section of the hotel in a separate little wing, with just two rooms behind our own secure door - what a treat. We were not disturbed whatsoever and slept well and heavily.
Breakfast was taken in the stunning restaurant which I believe is called Oz and Isle - a generous buffet arrangement with standard fayre - a full continental and hot English breakfast selection - but where this really shone was the quality of the offering.
The food quality was very clearly excellent - from the cereals, pastries, hot items, coffee, all superior. The bread was clearly locally sourced sourdough. They've clearly chosen to elevate the experience through little touches - the yogurts were imported from France. The toaster's a Dualit. The spreads were all Tiptree. And of course having that Australian influence there's Vegemite available. All these little touches make a difference.
The atmosphere in the restaurant is exceptional. We did not dine in the evening but noted the restaurant/bar was popular and busy. At breakfast it was lovely - the volume level was perfect, the music selected was appropriately chosen and volumed and staff were again incredibly warm, nothing was too much trouble and they took the time to share stories with us.
Little touches like the pot plants, palm trees, terrazzo tables and the stunning vaulted ceiling made this completely worth the money.
Overall, an exceptional stay, we will be back.
Very, very average for the price. Besides modern rooms and location, calling it "4 stars" is a stretch. Room wasn't fully clean on arrival, and housekeeping only happens once every 3 days. The wifi is also incredibly slow, to the point of being unusable.
Not that it mattered for me personally, but the minibar has no snacks, and there is no room service either. Their slogan of "first class hotel service" is actively gaslighting their customers.
