Thesis Hotel Coral Gables
First property under the THesis Hotels banner, part of the Paseo de la Riviera development across from the University of Miami
Open · August 2020
THesis Hotel Coral Gables opened in August 2020 as the first property under the independent THesis Hotels banner, before joining Hilton's Curio Collection in November 2024. The 245-room boutique hotel anchors Paseo de la Riviera, a mixed-use development facing the University of Miami, and has built its identity on a rotating cast of chef-driven restaurants as much as on its rooms.

The place
The hotel sits at the meeting point of Coral Gables, South Miami and Coconut Grove, directly across South Dixie Highway from the University of Miami's main campus and the Lennar Medical Center, with a pedestrian footbridge putting the campus and its Metrorail station within a few hundred yards. The address favors university-linked traffic — visiting families, faculty, conference and sports travelers — over the postcard version of Coral Gables around the Biltmore and Miracle Mile, while still keeping Coconut Grove and Miami International Airport, roughly 25 minutes away, within easy reach. It is a functional, connector location rather than a scenic one, and the hotel is built around that fact.
The concept
THesis Hotel Coral Gables was developed by Nolan Reynolds International (NRI) as the debut property of THesis Hotels, an independent brand conceived to serve university-adjacent markets with more flexibility than a major flag typically allows. It forms the hotel component of Paseo de la Riviera, a 770,000-square-foot mixed-use complex on 2.67 acres that also includes 204 multifamily residences and ground-floor retail. The hotel opened for guests in August 2020, initially operating outside any global chain, before Pyramid Global Hospitality-managed ownership brought it into Hilton's Curio Collection in November 2024 — a shift that added Hilton Honors distribution and digital-key technology to a property whose design and food-and-beverage program had already been set. The 245 rooms and suites lean toward laptop-friendly workspaces, rainfall showers and curated minibars, with select rooms offering floor-to-ceiling windows and suites adding extra living space; the positioning throughout is upscale-boutique rather than luxury. A rooftop pool with city views, a fitness center, 14,000 square feet of meeting space, and Privé padel courts round out a property built as much for a college-town calendar of parents' weekends, graduations and conferences as for conventional leisure demand — a niche few hotel brands have targeted as deliberately as THesis has here.
Dining & wellness
Dining at the hotel has changed hands since opening: chef Niven Patel and the Alpareno Restaurant Group ran Mamey and Orno from 2020 until departing in January 2024, when new executive chef Nicolas "Nico" Mazier took over the program. Mamey continues under new ownership with Latin-fusion, globally inflected cuisine, while The Collab, which opened in April 2024, serves Mediterranean- and Asian-influenced dishes for date-night and special-occasion dining. Ivy Rooftop, on the third floor, is the poolside extension of Mamey — small plates and cocktails with live music. The Hydrology spa adds concierge medicine, recovery treatments and massage under a board-certified physician, alongside a rooftop pool and gym.
