The place
The Grady occupies the corner of West Main Street and North Sixth Street in downtown Louisville's Market District, close to the Muhammad Ali Center, the Frazier History Museum and the Louisville Slugger Museum.
The concept
The Grady opened in May 2021 as a small luxury hotel inside a building commissioned in 1883 by pharmacist J.B. Wilder as a medicinal bourbon apothecary, later home to the Swann-Abram Hat Company's derby hat manufacturing during the 1920s. Developer Vision Hospitality Group and architecture and historic tax credit firm Campo preserved the original structure through the restoration, keeping 10- to 15-foot reclaimed wood ceilings while adding new systems and structural work. The hotel is named for Grady Clay, a Louisville journalist and influential figure in the New Urbanism movement, and it joined Small Luxury Hotels of the World, positioning it among the city's top-tier small hotels rather than as a mid-market boutique. Room interiors use navy, copper and maroon tones with locally inspired art referencing the bourbon-and-parks identity of the city.
Dining & wellness
The Grady includes an on-site restaurant, a lounge and a cocktail bar, along with valet parking; specific current dining-concept names were not independently verifiable at time of writing.
