The place
Hotel Genevieve sits at 730 East Market Street in Louisville's East Market District, better known as NuLu, a stretch of galleries, restaurants and independent shops just east of downtown. It occupies a brand-new six-floor building, the district's first purpose-built boutique hotel.
The concept
Hotel Genevieve is the first hotel outside Texas for Bunkhouse, the Austin hospitality group behind properties like Hotel San José, and its first ground-up urban build. The 122-room hotel was designed by Philadelphia firm ROHE Creative with Memphis-based LLW Architects, blending Kentucky quilt motifs with French modernist references — a deliberate nod to the hotel's namesake, the patron saint of Paris, filtered through a Southern lens. The hotel positions itself as NuLu's cultural anchor: a ground-floor lobby doubles as an art gallery celebrating Louisville, and the food and beverage program is built around James Beard-nominated chef Ashleigh Shanti, giving the property a culinary identity distinct from the usual lifestyle-hotel playbook.
Dining & wellness
Chef Ashleigh Shanti anchors four separate concepts: Rosettes, an all-day Parisian-café-style restaurant with Southern and Appalachian inflections; a rooftop bar serving cocktails and French street food with Ohio River views; Lucky Penny, a hidden speakeasy tucked inside the market; and Mini Marché, a neighborhood grab-and-go market and coffee counter.
