The concept

Hotel Kansas City opened on October 1, 2020 as the debut Unbound Collection by Hyatt property in the city, turning a private social club — closed to outsiders for the better part of a century — into a 144-room lifestyle hotel. Chicago-based Simeone Deary Design Group led the conversion, keeping the building's stained glass and hand-hewn walnut millwork intact while layering in Victorian-inspired guest rooms and suites alongside contemporary furnishings, a deliberate contrast between preserved past and modern comfort. The hotel's four in-house food-and-beverage venues source from local purveyors, part of a stated "by Kansas City, for Kansas City" positioning meant to root a global Hyatt soft brand in a specific civic history rather than a generic luxury template.
