The place

UNFRAMED sits at 1685 Washington Avenue in mid-South Beach, described by its developer as the first premium lifestyle hotel to open on Washington Avenue in the last decade. The street is a short walk from Soundscape Park, the New World Symphony Center, The Fillmore Miami Beach and The Bass Museum of Art, about 20 minutes from Miami International Airport and within easy reach of Wynwood, the Design District and downtown Miami.

The concept

French architect Rudy Ricciotti designed the building's undulating white-curved exterior as a nod to the French Riviera, a deliberate departure from the pastel Art Deco language that defines most of South Beach. Inside, interior designer Gulla Jónsdóttir layers smooth stone, brushed metal and tropical-modernist textures across the 149 rooms and suites, all of which have private balconies or terraces; the largest, a presidential suite, runs more than 700 square feet. A fourth-floor atrium open to the sky, with greenery and water features, functions as both a courtyard and an event space for up to 100 guests, alongside a rooftop pool terrace and the first-floor Soundscape room.

Dining & wellness

Vilebrequin La Plage, an 18,000-square-foot rooftop restaurant and bar developed with French resortwear brand Vilebrequin, its first restaurant in North America after outposts in Cannes, Crete, Doha and Oman, was designed by Vincent Darre with Executive Chef Gregory Gourreau running a menu built around southern France and South Florida produce.
