Truitt St. Louis

A Kansas City boutique brand is turning a 141-year-old Lafayette Square mansion, built for a St. Louis jewelry magnate, into an 8-room hotel — Truitt's first expansion beyond its original property.

The place

1723 Waverly Place, at the foot of Lafayette Park in the Lafayette Square neighborhood, one of St. Louis's oldest historic districts and a short drive from downtown, Busch Stadium and the Gateway Arch.

The concept

Truitt's first property outside Kansas City, and its first-ever adaptive reuse of a mansion the brand did not previously operate under its own name: a roughly 5,700-square-foot Second French Empire residence built in 1884 for David Constant Jaccard, co-founder of the Mermod & Jaccard Jewelry Co. The developers are restoring original features — coved ceilings, carved woodwork and marble fireplace mantels — for hospitality use. Founded in Kansas City by Ryan Hiser and David Tran, Truitt positions itself as a small-format, design-forward alternative to conventional hotels, and this expansion applies that formula, at only 8 rooms, to a single historic house rather than a purpose-built property.

Dining & wellness

No restaurant, bar, spa or pool has been announced; Truitt's Kansas City property operates without an on-site restaurant, and nothing published so far indicates F&B plans for St. Louis.
