The place

The hotel stands at 215 York Avenue on the eastern edge of the Central West End neighborhood, close to Forest Park, in a purpose-built seven-story building of roughly 94,300 square feet.

The concept

Unlike much of the AC Hotels portfolio, which frequently occupies converted historic buildings, this property is entirely new construction — a bet by St. Louis developer Koplar Properties on a still-developing corner of the Central West End near Forest Park's eastern edge. Construction began in fall 2019 and the hotel opened just over two years later, on December 16, 2021, as the brand's first Missouri outpost, bringing AC's pared-back, European-influenced design language to a neighborhood otherwise dominated by older independent hotels. The project's backers — Koplar Properties, Homebase Partners and operator Concord Hospitality — pitched it explicitly as filling a gap for a design-forward, upscale option near Forest Park, rather than as a conversion or rescue of an existing building, which sets it apart from most of downtown St. Louis's recent hotel openings.
