The Malone reopened in south Belfast in February 2026 after an 18-month, multi-million-pound transformation of the former Malone Lodge Hotel. The 103-room four-star property, owned by the Macklin family and managed by Focus Hotels, was named among The Times' UK best new hotels for 2026 — the only Northern Ireland hotel on the list.

The place

The hotel occupies a Victorian townhouse in Belfast's Malone/Queen's Quarter district, south of the city centre near Queen's University and the Botanic Gardens.

The concept

Rebranded from Malone Lodge after an 18-month, multi-million-pound reinvention led by owners the Macklin family, the hotel pairs its 1945 Victorian shell with contemporary interiors and art installations celebrating Belfast's heritage — a transformation that earned it a place among The Times' UK best new hotels for 2026, the only Northern Ireland entry on the list.

Dining & wellness

Dining and drinks run through the Gallery restaurant, the Greyhound Bar and a redesigned lobby lounge.
